Paperwork for Babies

I dutifully read through every baby list on the internet to make sure I was prepared to take an infant home from the hospital. Her crib was lovingly picked out, dogs had been trained, and I thought that I was prepared. You know what I didn’t prepare for? The PILES of paperwork that accompany a new human. I expected all the documents at the hospital and when she started daycare. But as I wrap up what I hope is the last of it for awhile, here are the two that I really wasn’t expecting:

  1. Passport – It’s all fun and games, until you try and get an infant to sit on their own and keep a straight face so that you can get an acceptable passport photo. We opted to try to take it at home and I kept most of the photos taken because it was so hilarious.
  2. Credit Freeze – This one has not been fun at all as you can’t submit the request online like you can for an adult credit freeze (which, as an aside, was a much easier task than I was expecting it to be!). I’m surprised they didn’t also request a lock of her hair, considering the amount of documentation I had to produce! But I’m also grateful that it means they’re trying to protect a minor, just as much as I am trying to by freezing her credit.

Here's to hoping the worst of the paperwork is behind us until college applications!
