Truro
Another July, another week in Truro with my wife’s family. It’s kind of funny – although the location and people are the same, each year the kids are that much older, making it a different experience every time.
This year we stayed at a different house than we usually do. This one was on Pamet Harbor, and it’s where my wife and I stayed with some of our family when we got married in 2020. That was a fun walk down memory lane for us!
Our daughter Briana is the youngest cousin (there are six, all girls). She’s always adored her older cousins, but each year she can interact with them even more. This year there were a lot of coloring, games, and dance parties (the favorite song was Soda Pop from KPop Demon Hunters). Fortunately, there were very few tears, despite some late nights and a general lack of sleep for everyone.
Briana really took to the water this year. She had some swimming lessons earlier in the summer which I’m sure helped. She couldn’t get enough puttering around in some shallow water, usually protesting when we insisted on a break because she seemed to be getting cold. Although she really did not like big waves when we went to the beach one day with some rough seas.
For us adults, it was nice to just let the kids entertain themselves for a while (the parental refereeing was really minimal). And I enjoyed my annual visit to the Portuguese bakery in Provincetown for a malasada and anything with linguica. But, as always, it went by too fast!
