Easter Bunny

Easter is a big deal in our house.  Along with Christmas and Halloween, it’s one of Briana’s three favorite holidays.  Our latest Easter activities all started a year ago at Bass Pro Shop.  You’re probably wondering what Bass Pro Shop has to do with Easter.  I didn’t have any idea either when we first walked in.

If you’ve never been to a Bass Pro Shop, it’s an experience as much as it’s a store.  Our local one has elevators with glass walls, tanks with live animals such as turtles and fish, and plenty of interesting things to look at.  It’s a perfect place for cold winter days when the cabin fever has set in but there isn’t much else to do, and we’ve been several times with Briana.

One of those times happened to be a few weeks before Easter last year.  We had no idea that they had arranged for the Easter Bunny to come and take pictures with kids – we spotted it from above while walking around on the second floor.  There are few things she’s been more excited about than she was for taking that picture. She liked it so much that we tried to go back a couple of weeks later, only to find out that it was very popular and sold out.  The first time we simply got lucky that it was so far before Easter that not many people were going yet.

Fast forward to this year and I knew we needed a reservation.  I learned that reservation slots were made available a week in advance, starting at midnight.  And they were going quickly – whenever I checked during the day, none were available. So, what did I do?  Wait up until midnight, of course!  And it’s a good thing I did – the next morning I checked out of curiosity, and the entire day was sold out.

This prompted some musing about the seasons of life.  Some people stay up until midnight to get concert tickets.  In my own much younger days, I remember going out very late – though I don’t think it was as late as midnight – to buy the latest Harry Potter book from our local bookstore as soon as it was released.  And in my current parenting season of life, I’m gladly staying up until midnight to make a reservation with the Easter Bunny.  I just hope one day she’s as amused about this whole episode as we are!
